Sudbury, MA Interior Design
This Living Room was designed for a young family of four with two small children in Sudbury, MA.
They desired a space that reflected their casual lifestyle while maintaining a classic aesthetic. They had mentioned their admiration for the color navy, so to keep it timeless it was only fitting to utilize a navy and white color scheme.
The room is made up of the typical colonial-style floor plan with a center fireplace and oblong proportions. To keep the French doors to the exterior accessible, the sofa was centered on the fireplace and coupled with two accent chairs floating in the space. The pieces were grouped together by a large 9x12 Greek key patterned area rug.
The family had a few pieces they asked to incorporate into the room, the main one being a gorgeous black lacquered grand piano, which was positioned in the left corner of the room where you enter the space. Two bamboo chairs were given new life after being reupholstered by a local workroom with fresh fabrics. The large gold mirror was highlighted above the sofa, while successfully tying into the other design elements.
These days most clients are looking for a transitional style living space that incorporates both new and existing pieces to create a classic, yet eclectic look. Mixing metals such as new polished chrome drapery rods with a crystal accent, polished chrome lamps with the brushed gold mirror and coffee table. Simple navy linen drapery panels are always in style and add contrast to the off-white painted walls, while anchoring the room. The room is revitalized and given new life with a new area rug, custom throw pillows and artwork hung over the fireplace.
