Modern Loft Interior Design
This urban space was designed for a couple in their early 30’s who live in one of Lowell’s 1800’s mill buildings, converted lofts.
When asked what they wanted the redesign to accomplish, they said they love to entertain and wanted a living space that would provide areas that are both functional and stylish.
The colorful silk geometric pillows inspired this design by introducing jewel tones and a modern flair. A dark gray fabric was chosen for the sectional to contrast the light colored walls and to hide wear. The black and white rug was chosen to ground the space while adding more pattern and contrast.
The exposed red brick and sandblasted wood beams add to the character and warmth to the overall space. Wooden blinds were used so that the arched brick was not hidden behind drapery panels; they also add a great texture to the space while providing privacy and light control.
I chose a sectional that was proportional to the space while providing ample seating. We added a sofa table behind the sectional to function as a bar. Black leather barstools with chrome nailheads and chrome light fixtures complete the look of the kitchen area.
Several pieces were customized for this living space. The coffee tabletop was originally glass and replaced with Carrara marble. The area rug was custom sized at 10x10 and serged from a local carpet supplier so that the furniture could all lay on the surface to give the illusion of a larger space.
The accessories in this room give it a WOW appeal! A large orchid softens the space while the colorful pillows and unique accessories add personality. The wall areas are filled out with the starburst mirror and personal photography.
